Each day, billions of people update their statuses, view streaming videos, tag photos, and game in countless virtual worlds. Yet, for all the time we spend immersed in digital media, how often do we pause to ask critical questions about it?
We will learn how to become effective writers in both print and digital media. Including approaches to informational and argumentative writing, our work will explore the many uses of language and media in our networked world. Using digital writing tools such as Google Docs, blogs, and Twitter, we will collaborate with one another to discover new audiences, purposes, and opportunities for writing.
Additionally, you will pursue a topic of your own choosing related to the broad field of media studies such as the effects of the internet, video games, social networking, or multimedia production. Together, we will explore how language and media construct societal norms, individual identities, and our perceptions of reality.
